Backed by Hyde Park Neighborhood Club (HPNC), local volunteers have organized Neighbors Together to send restaurant meals to frontline healthcare providers and food gift cards to families in need. The project unifies generous initiatives of local individuals, restaurants and organizations to feed our community during the COVID pandemic crisis.
How it Works: HPNC’s support allows neighbors to pool resources to ensure that purchasing can be done in quantities that make sense and equitably across local businesses.
The two current projects:
- The Kenwood Food Project has already collected over $1500 in restaurant gift cards which the Kenwood Academy Counseling staff has distributed to appreciative families. A $50 gift card provides a full meal to one family. Sponsoring restaurants add $5-10 in donated funds to the gift card.
- The Feeding Frontliners Project envisioned by Kate Oakes and Susan Alitto collects resources to send meals to UChicago Medical Center frontline workers from local restaurants. $1,500-2,500 pooled together will purchase meals for a full shift of 150-250 frontline healthcare workers. Restaurant partners have agreed to provide meals at $10/person.Donate NOW online or by check. All donations are 501(c)3 tax-deductible.·
