Home Modifications & Repair

CEDA assists eligible Cook County residents with their home heating and cooling energy costs as well as Emergency Furnace Repair. The following programs are available: Low-income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Percentage of Income Payment Plan (PIPP), Furnace Assistance, and Peoples Gas Share the Warmth. The PIPP Program is not accepting any new applications for the 2018 Program Year. Only current PIPP households are eligible to recertify for benefits. Additionally, CEDA installs energy saving measures to increase home performance, reduce energy and save money for clients. This includes inspections, insulation, and air sealing, which are performed at no cost to eligible applicants depending on the program. 

The Small Accessible Repairs for Seniors (SARFS) program provides safety, security and accessibility improvements that help senior citizens to remain in their homes. SARFS agencies are authorized to provide enabling devices and limited home improvements at no cost for income qualified senior citizens throughout Chicago. Appointments are necessary. Please call the agency serving your ward.

Housing Opportunities and Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.) provides minor home repairs to eligible seniors through its Upkeep & Repair Program. H.O.M.E. is a Chicago-based non-profit organization that helps low-income seniors live independently. 

CEDA is a private Community Action Agency providing community and economic development programs and direct social services that address the needs of low-income residents and communities in Cook County. It offers energy assistance, home weatherization, WIC assistance, family support and community engagement, and housing programs.

The Chicago Seniors At Risk Assessment Program provides free fire/fall safety assessments for individuals ages 65 or over and those with a disability. Chicago Fire Department members will assess the home for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as other fire and fall hazards. Call to schedule an appointment.

Metropolitan Family Services offers a Senior Homeowners Program which serves low to moderate income homeowners ages 60 or older who have difficulty maintaining their homes. This program provides referrals to home repair contractors and links seniors to city programs to help maintain their properties.
